About

YOUR SKIN IS THE LARGEST ORGAN IN YOUR BODY…AND IT SAYS A LOT ABOUT HOW WELL YOU’RE FUNCTIONING AS A WHOLE.

Did you know that your skin reflects your internal health? That’s something I learned before medical school that set me on my path to helping people see how intertwined nutrition and lifestyle are when it comes to the condition of their skin. I discovered the connection while studying biology and nutritional science at Cornell University, which I utilized when managing a health spa at a resort in Scottsdale, AZ. There were no lifestyle coaches at that time, but even then I helped clients and other therapists create healthy plans that were good for the body, both inside and out.

I love empowering people and educating others on things they can do to reach their goals.  Many people erroneously believe that their genetics will determine their health.  The good news is that 90% of your life choices will determine how quickly you age and how good you feel on a day to day basis.  So, the way you choose to live – smoking, eating, exercise, stress, chemicals – will affect both your skin and your internal health.  When you start focusing on good choices for your skin, the result will be improved health and more vigor for life.  Likewise, when you make good choices for your health, the result will be beautiful skin.

You don’t need a gimmick or a complicated program to control your health or attain beautiful skin.  All you need is good information and a commitment to make some simple changes that will have dramatic long-term benefits.  Read my Lifestyle Tips and start your path to improving your life.

Passion

I love Dermatology because I can look at someone’s skin as a window to internal health. If you’re dealing with acne or the discoloration left behind after it resolves, my skin care and nutritional recommendations can help. And if you’re looking to age gracefully (by which I mean showing minimal signs of aging), my lifestyle tips will make you a loyal believer in the true power of your choices.  Most importantly, I want you to embrace your unique self and not try to change who you are – just to be the best version of yourself.

My long-term commitment to healthy skin has deep roots.

I’m passionate about overall wellness, which includes fitness, and have spent a lot of time talking with men and women backstage during fitness competitions that I participated in after age 40. I’ve been helping readers of FitnessRx magazine with their dermatology questions since 2013, so I know that you’re also being bombarded with information that’s difficult to digest or just blatantly deceptive.  No matter how “perfect” someone may appear on the outside, every single person has insecurities.  I don’t want these insecurities to control you or make you feel that you are suffering alone.  We are all trying to do our best so let’s focus on how we can connect and help each other rise up.  My purpose is to share realistic information in an action-packed plan so that you can feel healthy, confident, and accomplish your life’s work.

False “knowledge” is everywhere,

I’ve made it my mission to strip away the myths and give you genuine, honest information, so you feel empowered to change your life while also improving your skin. Think of it this way. When you consume food or supplements, you’re feeding your skin from the inside out.

It is also essential to nourish the skin from the outside in to protect it from environmental toxins and help support the skin’s ability to repair and replenish itself.   Nourishing the body from both sides will help you achieve your skin goals as well as overall wellness.  Ignore the hype and the trends that come and go and are often damaging along the way.  People seem to want a quick fix, but slow and steady always wins the race.  Sometimes what truly works is too boring to publish, but I am going to only discuss what works.

Experiance

I’ve practiced internationally on all types of people with all kinds of skin.

After eight years of medical school and Dermatology training, I proudly served as an Officer in the U.S. Navy and traveled around the world, working and treating patients in diverse environments, including Hawaii, California, Thailand, and Washington, D.C., where I was a VIP dermatologist consultant to the U.S. Capitol. People from all different skin types and backgrounds came to me for help, and what I learned from them I want to share with you.  Environment and skin type makes a difference in what your skin needs at any given moment.  This is why the information I share is, of course, generalized and not personalized medical advice.

Every individual person has unique skin, and your needs are personal. Some are prone to redness; others develop dark patches easily. You may have oily skin that’s dehydrated, or normal skin that gets sensitive during different seasons. Helping you achieve your skin goals is my priority…and I do that by listening deeply and taking a well-rounded approach.

So, if you’re ready for healthier, better looking skin, let’s create the best solution together. Often, just by making one healthy change and sticking with it consistently, your body will respond positively.  Anything you can do to improve your skin, and your health, will make a difference.  It isn’t an all or nothing world, and no one is perfect.  Even if you change your habits and routine by 10%, you will be in a better place.  One step at a time is all that is necessary to get to your destination
